Name: Miram Penthesar
Nickname(s): "Stone Girl", "Little Miss Statue", "Pigeon Perch"
Age: 15 (effective, physical age), 3,200
Year: Sophomore/3rd year?
Nationality: ethnic Hittite (No official modern nationality)
Gender Identity: Female
Sexuality: Homosexual
Appearance: Miram would've been average height for her time but since people have gotten taller since then, she's a little on the short side at 5'2". Looking at her she seems to be pretty slender even for a girl of her shorter height; hidden is that she's actually in very good physical shape, though it's based more around speed and agility than strength. Her skin is a little pale for someone of vaguely Mediterranean decent, though she's easily a far cry from looking as if she were made of porcelain. Following old traditions and because she thinks it looks cute Miram maintains a mane of black hair that flows down to about her rear end. Typically she'll keep it under control by placing it into two thick braids tied off with purple ribbon. These ribbons actually are a pretty good match for the color of her eyes, also visibly a middling violet tone. There's not much to accessorize her outfits other than a black headband which is barely visible since it nearly matches her hair's tone. She does wear a charm on a simple necklace that bears the symbol of a now long-forgotten goddess of her people. It's made of simple bronze and the chain is showing its age, but she keeps it close all the time.
As she's really new to the modern world Miram doesn't have any clothing besides the basic skirt, blouse and blazer that was afforded to her by the school. Other than the long tunic, leather and bronze armor, helmet and sandals she once wore. When the magic wore off she was still wearing these and hasn't been able to make herself part with them since then. Sometimes she'll wear the tunic as a nightgown (it's that long, down to her knees) since it's nice and comfortable.
Personality: Miram carries herself fairly respectably for someone who's been a statue for an incredibly long amount of time. She makes a big effort to be friendly even though it's clear she's kind of forcing herself at times. It's all she can do sometimes to avoid getting horribly depressed by the reality of her situation. Since she's in a totally new world she doesn't know anyone, though somehow she's learned the language OK (probably the magic), she wants to reach out to others badly. It doesn't help that she seems to be naturally kind of awkward around people, obvious in the way that she doesn't really know how to start a conversation. That will probably be the biggest obstacle to making friends since she stutters and hesitates at first. Once she's in a conversation and comfortable with the situation - or as much as she can be - Miram is actually pretty confident in herself and is full of questions for other people. At the same time she tries her best to hear people out and listen to their problems, then offer solutions based on her experience. Usually this advice is outdated or unrealistic in the modern world, or just plain odd. But her heart's in the right place.
She's in possession of an incredibly strong determination to see things through no matter how grim a situation looks. This helps her when she sees someone in need, whom she will almost inevitably rush to the aid of no matter what she might've been doing beforehand. Even if she's studying for a big test, if there's someone she thinks needs help that studying will have to wait until she's done her bit. Overall she worries pretty regularly about being alone, to the point that she will seek out company at random times, just to ensure she isn't left on her own. If she gets stuck by herself she gets pretty anxious, then starts overthinking about a lot of things, ending up depressed sometimes. Despite desiring to learn more about this new world, she gets frustrated when she just doesn't get something. Talking about her past will make her sway between nostalgia and even more depression because she wasn't able to help her loved ones no matter how hard she tried. Deep down she's convinced that anyone she meets now who she likes, she'll do anything to help so she can make up for that shortfall. As a friend she is unerringly loyal, incredibly supportive and always willing to lend an ear or hang out; as a lover she would pretty much be the proverbial knight in shining armor. All she needs is someone willing to give her a chance and the time to get used to them.
Magic: Miram specializes in summoning, originally having begun training to be a battlefield summoner for her people before her period as a statue. Despite being the effective age of a third year she's a little behind the other third year girls. She understands the basics of summoning theory and its techniques, though maybe is a little fuzzy on developments since her original training. Before being turned into a statue she did interact with spirits for a bit, but never learned anything past that. Still she's eager to learn and refine her art, though she's terrified it won't end well and that she's not going to understand the lessons.
Inventory: N/A, unless she's actually in the same classes as other third years. (Will add a summoning stone if need be)
Family: Penthesilea, cousin (deceased) - Warrior leader of her adoptive people who was more of a big sister to Miram.
Arbonde, mother (deceased) - Also a battlefield summoner like Miram was training to be and the girl's first teacher in her particular branch of magic.
Hanna, sister (deceased) - one of the rare members of her family who never showed any talent or potential for summoning, trained to be a regular warrior in times of conflict and a trainer of horses in peace. Due to jealousy of her younger sibling Hanna rarely spoke or spent time with Miram.
Surena, lover (deceased) - A slightly older girl who was responsible for teaching Miram those arts that did not involve the arcane, including horsemanship, arts of fighting and oddly carpentry. They grew very close and wherever Surena went Miram would go as well. Miram promised to be ever at Surena's back, to keep her teacher safe no matter what. Obviously that didn't happen as planned.
History: Miram Penthesar's history is complicated and has proved unbelivable even to some people deeply steeped in the arts of magic. She was born into a culture now long lost to the world but remembered in Greek mythology as the antithesis of Greek patriarchy - commonly known as the Amazons. Theirs was a society rich in culture and kind of a melting pot since women from other cultures were allowed to join should they prove worthy. Since no men were allowed into their settlements, once a year selected women would venture out to try and find a man whom they could spend a night with in the hopes of having children. Of course if they got pregnant the father had no say in the child's raising, nor really an knowledge of its existence. Miram's father was a Hittite, the former rulers of most of modern-day Turkey and Anatolia. Her mother was also ethnically Hittite, so she learned not only the common Amazonian language but also the Hittite tongue as well.
As nearly everyone in the community did she learned to fight, ride on horseback and other martial subjects; she also learned a trade, since they wouldn't be perpetually at war. Everything was going well - she was becoming skilled in combat training but also decent at carpentry and had a lover. Miram started to learn summoning from her mother at around 12 years old, but it was slow and often interrupted by continuing demands for more warrior training. Summoners had been part of the Amazons' strength in battle, but there were dwindling numbers of them. When her cousin answered the call to aide a friendly city-state to the west against a major attack by the Greeks, Miram pleaded with her not to go. She just had a bad feeling about it. But go they did, including her beloved Surena. Though she was told not to go as well, Miram followed behind the small army on horseback with all of her gear. As the battle at Troy eventually went poorly, including her cousin's death, she was captured by Greek soldiers.. and eventually taken to one of their magicians, who out of nothing but pure curiosity if the spell would work turned the girl into stone. When it worked he felt quite accomplished, though he realized it would have an expiration.
For longer than Miram realized had transpired, she remained a statue. She stood silent guard over Greek palaces, gardens, and anywhere else she was moved over the course of history. During all of this time she remained unconscious to the reality of her situation, as if she were in a perpetual slumber. Finally she ended up in the hands of an accomplished magician who could tell the statue had some powerful magic infused into it. A magic that would sooner or later wear off. This was how she ended up on Calor Island, overlooking a garden near the student dorms at Serenus Acadmey of Magic. And then, one day, the staute of a Classical period warrior girl who'd just stood in armor, shield at the ready, started to crack. The stone fell away and Miram stumbled forward, finding herself in a strange location but with no Greeks anywhere in sight. After some initial problems adjusting, she finally was taken in by a staff member who learned about her past and helped her get registered for classes. Might as well finish her training for her own good, after all.
