Name: Naomi Sneijder
Nickname(s): Ms. Sneijder, was once known as 'Nao-tan' or 'Nao-chan' as a student.
Age: 23
Occupation: Science instructor, dabbles in math as well.
Clubs Supervising: None yet.
Nationality: Dutch
Gender Identity: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: Naomi is the sort of woman who under normal circumstances would turn plenty of heads. She is certainly a little taller than average at 5'8" and has a physical build that is neither underdeveloped nor the sort that makes people wonder if it's all natural. That is to say a slightly better than average build, with curves that are just noticeable in the right clothes. Her hair is a chestnut or Spanish brown tone, long but pulled into a braid whenever she's at work. The back is a little longer than the sides and front for whatever reason. Being from northern Europe she's a little paler than many of her counterparts and students, with a natural pinkish tinge to her cheeks that makes it look a little like she's blushing even when she's not. Deep forest green eyes highlight any expression and in brighter lighting can look a little more emerald in pitch. At work her attire is conservative and businesslike: white blouses with a tie, skirt with matching vest, tights and smart flats. Off the job she has a secret stash of much more casual and girly clothes, nearly every item having lace, ruffles, or at least a heart or floral pattern to it.
Personality: A soft spoken woman at heart, she tries her best to be a calm guiding influence for her girls (students). Confrontation is something she avoids whenever she can, which can make dealing with problem students a particularly troubling affair. It's not uncommon for her to flee the room in tears if a student is mean-spirited or too disruptive, only to return with a teacher or faculty member who can apply more discipline. Before this she will do her absolute best to try and reach a compromise instead of fighting. All of this is a smoke screen for the fact that she secretly has a bit of a temper that flares up when she's particularly upset. When the temper hits she becomes loud, very angry over every little thing and generally unpleasant to be around. Hating this part of herself Naomi has learned to shrink from confrontation and hide in the corner or otherwise accede to the opposing side. Just so that her angry side won't come out to play.
It makes her happy to see students engaged and interested in what she's teaching them, even though she consciously realizes it's not as interesting to them as magic might be. In the classroom she encourages creativity so that her students might enjoy their experience even more. She's pretty self-conscious about what people think about her, too, so she's always working way too hard to be a really good teacher. Or at least to be a popular one. Aside from her job she can be absent minded and daydreams off and on about a lot of things. This leads her to getting distracted from more important things. Her big desire is for everyone to get along, so her personal feelings always take a backseat to the status quo. At the same time she has moments where she just lets out her temper so that it won't explode at a bad time; reacting to little things in her room is a common occurance. When confronted she'll deny it was her and claim it was the TV or something. Even though it's well known that she doesn't own one.
Magic: Despite teaching the rather non-arcane subjects of math and science Naomi is actually a very accomplished elemental magician. She's well grounded in all the core elements and can do some fairly impressive things with them. While not the most powerful elementalist in the world she's quite naturally talented but lacks mainly due to being out of practice. Her specialty as a student was lightning magic, which she could at one time focus into a fine point to strike a tiny target or spread out into mutiple strikes with equal strength. Since graduating from school she has ceased using lightning magic all together and fears using it. As a result she has quite the potential but is badly out of practice.
Inventory: A single pendant that amplifies the strength of elemental magic, shaped like a heart and made out of white marble. She doesn't wear it anymore, but it does still sit in her dresser drawer.
Family: Gertrud Sneijder (mother) - matriarch of a family that specializes in elemental magic, currently a teacher at a different magical institution.
Armand Sneijder (father) - the only non-magical member of her family who married Gertrud out of love, and was a young Naomi's best buddy in the world.
History: The Sneijder family is well known amongst magicians' circles as being quite the experts in elemental magic. Every generation has had one type of magic they were particularly strong in, though the most famous like Gertrud have found a balance between the elements. What was different about Naomi was that she proved to be a prodigy in elemental magic, mastering the very basics before even attending a proper school. She was sent to Serenus because a family friend worked there at the time and her mother personally vouched for the quality of education. As a student Naomi was famous before she even set foot on campus as stories about her abilities, some greatly exaggerated, were already circulating. This made it hard for her to make friends because everyone just assumed she was going to have too many more important things to do with her time or were actually jealous of her.
As a student she was the same height but hadn't developed yet and kept her hair only as long as her chin, looking quite different than Ms. Sneijder would in the future. Her existence was lonely at first, with teachers excitedly crowding around her after she managed to pass higher level tests in her first year. Each year brought her more stature but also distanced her from classmates whose classes were all normal. Somehow she still ended up finding someone who she got along with incredibly well, then ended up dating. Since she was so well known the couple was famous overnight. All the attention aggrivated a short fuse she'd been trying to control, but eventually on a date she noticed people following behind. She'd ask them to leave and they wouldn't, and then she lost her temper. The amulet her girlfriend had gotten her made the strikes of lightning more powerful and in the end several trees were scorched, one was on fire, the onlookers terrified and her girlfriend burned by a grazing blow. Terrified at the result of her anger, Naomi swore to never use her magic again after that day. By this time she was a senior and had just finished her exams; the date had been to celebrate the end of those exams.
The couple broke up after the incident, Naomi quietly graduated and went soul-searching back in Europe for a few years. She even went to a university and got her degree in a subject totally unaffected by the taint of magic: science. Yet working in a lab for the rest of her life wasn't very appealing, and she really wanted to be in the classroom to teach. Eventually she got in touch with Serenus Academy for the first time in several years, found out there was an opening for a science instructor and asked for an interview. The interview went well and now she's returned to campus for the first time since she was a student. While nervous about returning, she's excited about the chance to make a difference in her students' lives. Hopefully they haven't heard about her time as an elemental magic student, or at least not about what caused her to swear off magic entirely. Unless otherwise asked, she maintains that she doesn't know any magic.
